Welcome Back! Week of January 8th-12th

Welcome back Bobcats!

I hope everyone had a relaxing, fun, and joyous winter break!

We will ease back into the swing of things with two four day weeks. This Friday, students will not have school due to a Teacher Work Day. We all get a day off on Monday to observe Martin Luther King Day! Enjoy the four day weekend! This week your child will be coming home with a new reading log for January. Please begin filling this out nightly. It will be due at the end of the month. Book bags can come back to class anytime this week so we can get new books sent home. Sight word testing will continue on Thursday this week, so I hope your kiddo knows where their book is! (It should be in their Bobcat Binder) If your child does not have one or have misplaced it, please encourage them to come talk to me! Spelling will continue this week. Expect a new list for Superkids Unit 6 in your child's Bobcat Binder tomorrow. The spelling test will be on Thursday. Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring some social studies by doing a mini Civil Rights unit. We will be discussing the history of the Civil Rights movement, why we honor MLK, and how important it is to treat others with equality and respect. Your child will be participating in discussions on equality and expressing themselves through writing an "I Have a Dream" speech modeled after Dr. Martin Luther Kind Jr. After that, we will jump back into science with our Forces and Motion unit!

I have graded your child's Extreme Weather Projects! They did a phenomenal job! These will be coming home in the next few weeks after I have displayed them in the hallway for a while to show off their amazing work!

As far as math goes, we will be continuing Module 3. Students will continue to explore ways of representing numbers by their place value up to 1,000. If you need another

parent tip packet for Module 3, please email me! We will be having a mid-module test within the next few weeks.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! Please make sure your child is reading nightly and is remaining accountable for getting their homework done and turned in. I discussed with the kiddos how I will be "cracking down" on late and missing assignments after break to best prepare them for their third grade teacher's expectations. I will also be continuing to coach them on turning in completed, neat, and quality work. Support from you at home is just as important to their success! I can't believe we are already starting semester 2!

Have a wonderful and safe week!

Much thanks!
