Week of December 4th-December 8th

Good afternoon!

I hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather!

Just a few reminders this week:

1. The Holiday Shop: Our class has our shopping day this Tuesday, December 7th. Please send your child with money to purchase gifts if you would like! We will be shopping in the morning from 11:00-11:45. The shop will be open all week for purchases.

2. Reading Logs: November reading logs were due Friday. If your child did not turn it in last week, please make sure they have it tomorrow. December logs will go home tomorrow.

3. Science Take Home Project: I hope you had a chance to read over the weather take home project! Again, this is due this coming Thursday, December 7th. This is a large part of your child's final grade for our weather unit in science. Please let me know if you have any questions about it! The kiddos will present their brochures in class :-)

4. Holiday Traditions: We will be collaborating on a Holidays Around the World Social Studies project with Mrs. Dann's and Mrs. Geiger's class. This project will begin this Friday and continue until winter break. Students will be exploring and researching how other countries celebrate the holidays. They will be completing this collaborative project in school, but some students may want to bring in things from home for their presentations (last year some kids dressed up/ wore santa costumes/ brought in props for their country). This project is always a fun way to wrap up the quarter! Presentations will be conducted the last week of school.

5. Backpack Page Books: I wanted to reiterate how important it is to support your child in keeping their Superkids Backpack Page Book safe and inside their backpacks. I am so proud that most of the kids have done a great job with this, but I have had several kids leave it at home or misplace it. I tell them that if they don't bing it back to school, I can't give them a completion grade for their homework. I really coach the kids on accountability and keeping track of their belongings. Thank you for supporting your kiddo with this!

6. Mid Year Testing and Report Cards: This week we will be conducting our mid-year DIBELS testing. Please make sure your child is in class this week! Report cards for the first semester will be released by Friday, December 22nd.

7. Spelling Menu: Last week I handed out a blue spelling menu that is now in your child's Bobcat Binder. Depending on the list your child has for the week, they may have spelling homework from this menu. Students are instructed to pick ONE square from the front or back of the menu to complete for spelling practice, unless they are assigned a backpack page. If your child wants to do more that one square, I always encourage them to do extra practice and reward them for going "above and beyond" my expectations. I hope this menu gives you and your child a variety of fun ways to practice their spelling words.

I think that about wraps up what we have going on this week...I hope everyone has a great week!
