Good afternoon!
I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Just a few housekeeping items:
1. Please take a moment to set up your Superkids Parent Portal. Through this portal you will have access to many resources for our Superkids Reading Program! You will also be able to see where we are at in class and have access to things your child can work on at home that will reinforce the skills we are learning in class. I will also occasionally post assignments that are due in case you are not able to check your child's homework planner.
2. B.O.B.C.A.T Binders: This will be your child's homework binder for the year! (If you were in Mrs. Dann's class last year, this is very similar to the FROG Binder) The expectation is that this binder goes home nightly and returns to school with your child everyday. Expect it to come home tomorrow!!
In this binder, students will have:
Homework Planners: This is where students will write down their nightly assignments and their behavior color so you can see how they are doing in class! Students move their colors throughout the day based on good work habits and on TRACK behavior. More information will be shared at Curriculum Night.
A quick breakdown of the behavior color chart meanings: Pink=Superkid (highest achievement) Purple=Role Model, Blue=Good Choice Maker, Green=Ready to Learn (where each student starts daily) Orange=Oops, I can do better, Yellow= Time to Ponder, Red=Contact Home.
Monthly Reading Log: You and your child will record the minutes you read each night on a monthly reading log. This log will be collected at the end of each month and will add to your child's work habits grade.
Bobcat Bucks Bank Ledger: This is where your child will record their weekly balance of Bobcat Bucks on Fridays (part of my behavior incentives program where students earn monetary amounts for good behavior throughout the day. This correlates to color chart) They will then get to spend their money on various rewards and at out classroom store.
Sight Word Books: High frequency words your child is currently working on in class. It is highly encouraged to practice them at home as well!
Spelling Words for the Week: Your child will have a weekly spelling list to practice throughout the week. Spelling tests will be on Fridays. It is expected that you spend time studying these words with your child throughout the week so they are prepared for the test on Friday. SPELLING WILL BEGIN IN A FEW WEEKS!
Thank you for taking the time to read over these few items. I don't want to overwhelm anyone, but I felt these two items needed to be shared prior to when I see you on Curriculum Night.
More information will be coming home this week and Curriculum Night on the 23rd will be a great time for more detailed explanations on behavior and homework expectations as well as volunteer opportunities. As always, please reach out to me with any questions!
Thank you kindly!
Ms. Parsons
