Week 4!

Week 4 here we go!!!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This week I am planning on having your child's reading assessments completed! Please expect some books to be coming home with your child to practice at home in the next few weeks. These books will be yours to keep! I apologize in advance if they come home un-stapeled! I most likely will not have the time to create each individual book :-). These books will be printed from a website I use that directly corresponds to your child's current reading level. These books will help your child become a more confident, self-motivated reader while working on fundamental skills. Expect these books to be in your child's homework binder in a zip-lock.

Wednesday this week is picture day! Please make sure to have your order forms turned in by then.

I am currently working on planning our first major field trip in October to Cave of the Winds! I thought it would be fun to do a bat study and cave exploration close to Halloween. We may also be working with Kindergarten to plan a field trip in September to a farm. More details to come!

A few other things: I am creating more printouts of sight words and nonsense words for your child to practice. These lists will be in their homework binders and I encourage you to frequently practice/quiz your child on these words. As you will see, nonsense words are not real words. Their purpose is to make sure your child knows the separate letter sounds within words and is able to break them down and blend the sounds together. They are tested on these through our new school-wide standardized reading test, DIBLES. Please reach out if you have any questions!

I have also completed testing on math fact fluency and I would STRONGLY encourage you to practice addition and subtraction math facts at home with your kiddo. This would entail quizzing them on the basic facts using flash cards. There are also some great, free apps on iTunes for math fact fluency practice. The kids are usually motivated to use these apps to practice because they feel more like a game than homework!

Fun Friday will begin this week! As a reminder, kids that are on the right TRACK all week and complete all their assignments will get to participate in fun activities on Friday. Students that have missing assignments, incomplete work, or owe me a behavior reflection will spend this time in Study Hall.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Please let me know if you need anything or have any questions!
